THE ESSENTIAL TAKEAWAY

01

A revenue-share percentage is only meaningful when both sides agree on the transaction population, deductions and settlement period beneath it.

Revenue measurement and commercial operations. The British regulatory example is jurisdiction-specific; the proposed control pack is IGW³ analysis, not accounting or tax advice.

SOURCE CONTEXT

The British Gambling Commission defines gross gambling yield through stakes plus other directly connected amounts, less prizes or winnings. Its guidance addresses the treatment of free bets, bonuses and cashback rather than leaving those categories to an informal dashboard convention. The scope matters: that definition supports the regulator’s reporting framework and should not be assumed to be identical to every commercial contract’s revenue base.

IGW³ ANALYSIS

For an operator comparing a finance report, a platform dashboard and a supplier invoice, the useful first question is whether the three systems are measuring the same transactions. A period can look inconsistent because one extract uses settled wagers while another includes open bets, or because their currency conversions and cut-off times differ. Renaming both totals “NGR” does not resolve those differences.

IGW³ ANALYSIS

Our recommended first deliverable is a one-page definition sheet. Record the product, legal entity, period, timezone, currency rule and included transaction states. Then list each deduction with its trigger and supporting evidence. Keep refunds, bonuses, jackpots, taxes and payment charges explicit where they are relevant to the agreement. Do not assume that a deduction is allowed simply because another supplier uses it.

IGW³ ANALYSIS

Consider an invented settled cash-only period: €100,000 staked and €96,000 paid in winnings produce a €4,000 difference. If a hypothetical contract then permits €1,500 of documented deductions, its example revenue base is €2,500. That arithmetic explains the bridge; it does not establish which deductions are valid for a real contract, regulator or tax return. A larger headline revenue-share percentage can still apply to a smaller defined base.

IGW³ ANALYSIS

The second deliverable is a reproducible reconciliation. Select a sample invoice line and trace it back to the relevant wagers and adjustments. Keep the source extract, query version and extraction time. Track differences as cases with owners, rather than making silent spreadsheet changes to force agreement. A correction should remain visible in the period in which it was approved and in any restatement required by the applicable rules.

IGW³ ANALYSIS

Before signing or renewing a commercial agreement, ask finance and the supplier to calculate the same sample period independently. Compare the transaction population before comparing the final numbers. Agree the dispute process, evidence access and treatment of later corrections. The result should be a shared explanation of the invoice, not a promise that different systems will always display the same headline metric.
